OUTPOST GROUPS

A Revolution in Fellowship and Purpose

I used to feel stuck—longing for the deep connection and transformative power of God I read about in Scripture, yet frustrated by the shallow relationships and routines of traditional church settings.

Programs and Sunday services left me feeling like a spectator, part of a system that kept me busy but didn’t empower me. My heart ached for something more—authentic community that fostered real growth and a deeper encounter with God. That’s when the passion ignited to create something different—a space where decentralized leadership empowered truth-seekers to gather on their own terms while staying connected to a greater movement.

Enter The Outlier Brand.

What was missing? Fellowship rooted in authenticity, freedom, shared purpose, and an openness to the tangible presence and power of God.

Outpost Groups came alive from this vision—a way to step out of the noise of the world and into a space where God’s presence is not just a concept but a reality, where real connection happens, and spiritual transformation takes root.

These groups are more than gatherings; they’re a movement to reclaim what institutional systems often fail to provide—genuine fellowship that transforms lives and builds something greater.

“where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”

WHAT IS AN OUTPOST GROUP?

An Outpost group is when two or more are gathered intentionally for the purpose of hearing God and ushering in the power of His kingdom.

An Outpost group is when two or more are gathered intentionally for the purpose of hearing God and ushering in the power of His kingdom.

How Are Outpost Groups Different from Church Small Groups?

Focuses on Hearing God's Voice – The goal is to know God personally, not just learn about Him. The primary purpose is to hear directly from God rather than simply gathering to discuss a teaching about God.

A Spirit-Led Community – Outpost groups create a safe space to exercise faith and access the supernatural power of God in tangible ways. Unlike traditional groups led by a sole leader, these groups encourage participation by all who gather and are guided by the Holy Spirit, fostering deeper connection and spirit-led growth.

Prioritize Experiencing God’s Presence – The emphasis is on encountering God’s power and glory in the moment for clarity, refreshing, and a deeper connection with Him, rather than engaging in surface-level conversation or casual fellowship alone.

An Autonomous Movement – Outpost groups prioritize movement over systems and conviction over programs. They operate independently, driven by the participants’ desire to grow in their faith, rather than being controlled or structured by an external entity like a church or pastor. This allows for organic spiritual growth, flexibility, and a dynamic response to God’s leading.

As a result of these principles, outpost groups naturally foster authentic vulnerability among believers. This openness creates genuine relational connections, builds trust, and encourages a deeper sense of community rooted in faith and mutual support united in spirit.

WHY OUTPOST GROUPS MATTER

Outpost Groups answer the deep yearning for KOINONIA—a Greek word describing close, intimate fellowship marked by shared purpose and mutual encouragement. They reclaim the simplicity and power of the early church by focusing on:

  • Community Over Programs: Genuine relationships that transcend surface-level connections.

  • Empowerment Over Control: Decentralized leadership that encourages every member to grow and contribute.

  • Encounter Over Routine: A hunger for God’s power to transform lives in real, tangible ways.

THE OUTPOST GROUP MODEL

Minimum Requirement - Two People: The beauty of an Outpost Group is that it starts small—just two or three people are enough to create a space where God is present. This simplicity ensures that no one feels intimidated or overwhelmed by the idea of starting a group.

Fellowship and Growth: Outpost Groups embrace the spirit of Acts 2:42, creating an environment for authentic relationships, shared teaching, prayer, and breaking bread together. The goal is unity and transformation through shared experiences.

Spirit-Filled Encounters: Outpost Groups prioritize inviting God’s tangible presence into every gathering. This means expecting His power to move through prayer, worship, testimonies, and acts of faith.

Why Every Outlier Needs a Personal Mission Statement

March 21, 20244 min read

When was the last time you truly sat down to define your purpose? Not just dream about it, but actually articulate what drives you, what you stand for, and what legacy you want to leave behind. If you’re like most people, the answer is probably “never.” But here’s the truth: without a clear mission, you’re drifting, not driving.

That’s why I wrote My Mission Statement: A Shortcut for You to Create Yours. It’s not just a book—it’s an invitation to clarity and purpose. As an Outlier—a freethinker, creator, or entrepreneur—you know you’re wired differently. You see possibilities others overlook. But even the most driven individuals lose momentum without a clear roadmap.

My Story: From Dream to Clarity

I still remember the moment everything changed for me. It was 2007, and I was sitting with a billionaire who also happened to be a devoted follower of Christ. In our conversation, he said something that rocked me:

“Whether you have a big dream, a small dream, or no dream at all, the cost is the same. You’re going to exchange your life for it.”

That idea stuck with me. I realized that every single day, I was exchanging my time, energy, and effort for something. But what was I truly building? Was I chasing someone else’s vision or crafting my own?

I took two weeks to pray, reflect, and draft my personal mission statement. I wanted to clarify not only what I wanted to achieve but also how I would live while pursuing it. Little did I know, that clarity would become my anchor in the storms to come—bankruptcy, homelessness, and starting over with a wife and four young kids.

What Writing a Mission Statement Does for You

A mission statement isn’t just a document; it’s a compass. It reminds you of your “why” when challenges arise. Here’s what it does:

  1. Gives You Clarity: When you’re overwhelmed, it helps you focus on what truly matters.

  2. Anchors You in Adversity: In tough seasons, it reminds you why you started and why you must continue.

  3. Sets Your Direction: It acts as a roadmap, ensuring your efforts align with your values and goals.

  4. Inspires Others: A clear mission motivates not just you, but those around you to rally toward a common vision.

Why Outliers Need a Mission Statement

As Outliers, we face unique challenges. We don’t follow traditional paths; we blaze our own. But that freedom comes with responsibility. Without a clear mission, even the most ambitious plans can falter.

A mission statement is especially crucial for:

  • Freethinkers: To stay true to your values in a world full of noise.

  • Creators: To build projects that align with your deeper purpose.

  • Entrepreneurs: To focus your energy on ventures that matter.

The Simplicity of Writing Yours

In My Mission Statement, I break down the process into simple steps, including:

  • Reflecting on Your Values: What truly matters to you?

  • Defining Your Purpose: What legacy do you want to leave?

  • Writing It Down: Putting your mission into clear, actionable words.

You don’t need to start from scratch—I share my mission as an example and provide a template you can adapt.

Why You Shouldn’t Wait

Too many people put off defining their mission until life forces their hand. Don’t wait for a crisis. Take control now. Imagine waking up every day with unshakable clarity, knowing who you are and what you’re working toward.

Writing your mission statement isn’t just a task—it’s an investment in your future.
